We are looking for a Solution Architect to join our team.


Role Summary


You will be responsible for the design, implementation, governance, and integration of application data, and technical solutions across Kaplan UK's diverse range of educational and professional services. This includes apprenticeships, accountancy, tax, finance, banking courses, and professional assessments, ensuring that all solutions meet the specific needs of these varied business areas, conform to relevant standards, and align with Kaplan's overarching enterprise architecture and technology strategy.



As a Solution Architect you will:

  • Working with cloud environments, specifically AWS and Azure, you will ensure conformity with out architecture principles. You will select appropriate technologies, approaches, and building blocks to solve a wide range of business problems independently.

  • You will be an active member of the Technical Design Authority (TDA), responsible of bringing your designs to the TDA for presentation and approval, as well as reviewing other designs. You will work collaboratively with other architects, analysts, developers, and DevOps engineers, providing leadership and direction to ensure that software and technical solutions are fit for purpose, reliable, secure, and comply with functional and non-functional requirements as needed.

  • Reporting directly to the Architecture Team Lead, you will also be responsible for developing and maintaining an architecture framework and related set of repositories and processes to ensure that the architecture practices and outputs are delivered to a high standard, deriving true value for the UK and wider Kaplan businesses.

What you’ll bring to the role


      Agile software development frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban

      Secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC)

      DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code to support modern delivery approaches

      Working to industry-recognised architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and DAMA.

      Experience as an active member of Technical Design Authority (TDA) or Architecture Review Boards (ARB).

      Expertise in designing and maintaining AWS and Azure cloud architectures, ensuring security, availability, scalability, and cost-efficiency

      Experience incorporating AI technologies into solution designs to enhance automation, decision-making, and overall system efficiency

      Proven experience designing high-performing and highly available solutions

      Strong understanding of security threats (e.g. OWASP Top 10) and the common strategies and technologies used to protect systems and data

      SOX, ISO27001, ISO22301, PCI and PII security standards, requirements and guidelines, and worked in an environment that adheres to these standards

      Infrastructure and networking technologies, such as load balancers, firewalls, routers, IDS/IPS, DNS, DCHP

      Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory services, including DNS and Group Policy Management

      Enterprise Data Platforms such as Microsoft Fabric

      Familiarity with low-code/no-code platforms like Google AppSheet

      Knowledge of automation tools like RPA and UIPath
