We are looking for a Senior Psychometrician to join our team.


Kaplan is seeking a capable psychometrician to join the Kaplan Assessment psychometrics team, contributing to the design, development, and implementation of assessment solutions across programmes, with a particular focus on the Kaplan Test of English (KTE). The role will involve both leading KTE psychometric work and collaborating on wider team initiatives to support consistency, knowledge sharing, and innovation across the assessment portfolio.


The ideal candidate will combine strong psychometric, computer adaptive testing and data science expertise with technical programming skills to maintain and enhance our adaptive testing platform. This role bridges the gap between psychometric analysis and technical implementation, working closely with IT teams to drive continuous improvement of our assessment system.

What you’ll bring to the role


Essential:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. Degree preferred (or working towards the completion of a Ph.D.) in one of the following disciplines: applied mathematics, psychometrics, data science, educational measurement, statistics, or a closely related subject

  • Direct experience with CAT assessments and excellent working knowledge of adaptive algorithm and estimation methods

  • Experience with large-scale, high-stakes educational assessment programmes

  • Excellent working knowledge of classical and modern test theory and advanced psychometric models

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R & SQL preferred)

  • Excellent working knowledge of psychometric packages and software

  • Knowledge and experience in applying ML and AI in educational research

  • Experience in using Gen-AI solutions in educational assessment

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong report writing skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across a range of teams

Desirable:

  • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure across Azure, AWS &GCP

  • Experience with English language assessments

  • Strong project management and organisational skills

  • Experience of creating and delivering psychometric assessment reports

  • Strong commitment to customer service and quality enhancement

  • Experience of working in a geographically dispersed team and in co-operation with freelance staff

  • High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to facilitate the development of projects in minimally defined parameters
